§ 51.10. Definitions

For purposes of this subchapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning. NOTE: Terms used in this subchapter which are not defined within this section are defined in § 51.40.

Building (house) drain. That part of the lowest horizontal piping of a drainage system which receives the discharge from soil, wastes, and other drainage pipes within the walls of the building, and conveys it to the building sewer, beginning two feet outside the inner face of the building wall or foundation.

Domestic sewage. Water borne wastes normally discharging from the sanitary conveniences of dwellings (including apartment houses and hotels), office buildings, factories and institutions, free from storm surface water and industrial wastes.

House lateral. The extension from the public sewer main to the nearest property or easement line.

Properly shredded garbage. The wastes from the preparation, cooking, and dispensing of food that has been shredded to such degree that all particles will be carried freely under the flow conditions normally prevailing in public sewers.

Sewage. A combination of the water-carried wastes from residences, business buildings, institutions, and industrial establishments.

Sewage treatment plant. Any city owned facility, devices and structures used for receiving and treating sewage from the city sanitary sewer system.

Sewage works. All facilities for collecting, pumping, treating and disposing of sewage.

Sewer. A pipe or conduit for carrying sanitary sewage.
